Quick Start Guide

  1. Starting a search
  2. On all Nibbo pages there's a search field at the top. Just enter your query, and when you're done, click «Enter» or click the «Search» button next to the text field.

Suggestions based on your input will be shown below the text field as you type. Use the Up/Down arrow keys to select the suggestions, or use your mouse cursor to click on the search term to be used.

  3. Getting the results
  4. Once the search query has been submitted, the results page will be shown. It consists of 3 columns: previews, main results and refinements/settings (this is the default order, although it can be changed).

The previews column will show a button for each search engine in your list, except for the one currently showing in the main area. Clicking on a button will move that search engine to the main area. The previews button can be in two states: collapsed or uncollapsed; on collapsed state, place the mouse cursor over the search button to show a tooltip with the results preview. The shown information is the same as the one that appears in the uncollapsed state, although in that case the previews will be placed inside the button. Each engine button can be toggled by using the toggle icon at the left-most part of the button, and the selection will be remembered for future searches. It's also possible to obtain more information about each preview by placing the mouse cursor over them. To open that result in your browser, just click on it.

The main search column will show the results for the currently selected search engine. In some search engines it will offer a preview option, like videos or books.

The refinements/settings colum varies depending on the currently selected search type, as not all search types have refinements or additional settings. In the case of refinements, Nibbo will analyze the results and offer a number of keywords that can be added or removed from the search; just click on the keyword of the plus icon to add it, and the minus icon to exclude it.

Most search types also offer a number of custom options, like the results language or sorting order; just select the options you want and then click on the «Apply» button at the bottom of the settings. There's also a «Default?» button that can be used to store that configuration as the default one for future searches. Multiple instances of a search engine type may have different configuration parameters.

  5. Personalizing the results page
  6. From the search results page it's possible to reorder or remove engines; just drag and drop them to the position you want them to appear, or drop them to the trash bin that appears at the lower right side of the screen once the dragging process starts.

It's also possible to add engines from the results page when using one of the engines listed under the «Other Engines» list; an «Add» button will appear under the settings panel, so just click it, and it will be appended to your search engine list.

The results page can also be configured from the «Layout» section of the settings page; from this page it's possible to add, delete, modify or reorder engines, and also provides additional configuration options, like the number of previews, or changing the search engine label or icon.

  7. Authenticated user benefits
  8. It's possible to sign on Nibbo using your Google account. This is completely optional and safe (Google will not share your password or personal information with us), but authenticating user will enable Nibbo to remember your configuration, so the same configuration can be shared among multiple computers.

Also, this also offers the possibility of creating custom search engines. Those engines can be added to your engine list like any other engine, and provide a large number of possibilities, like limiting your search to specific websites, boost search results based on some keywords, or prevent some websites from appearing in your search.
